TANTUM

With its collection "TANTUM", Jean Marcel presents eight noble mechanical wristwatches in an extremely flat stainless steel case. Named after the Latin word for "only", it features two automatic chronographs with an overall height of only 11 mm, four three-hand automatic watches with date – and an extremely slim 8 mm total height – and, as a special highlight, two hand-wound models that are only 6 mm high. Due to the minimized overall height of the watch design, the timepieces in the new TANTUM collection can therefore be regarded as the flattest models in their respective market segments.

The cases of the TANTUM – dignified as usual, only flatter

With an incredibly low total height of 11 mm, the two TANTUM chronographs are among the flattest automatic chronographs in the world. That's no coincidence: The mechanical heart of each watch is the recently redesigned "Swiss Made" calibre JM A10 based on an ETA 2894-2, which is currently the world's flattest automatic chronograph movement with a large rotor.

The case of the four TANTUM automatic models without stopwatch function is only 8 mm in height, which is 2.8 mm less than the lowest ever height of an automatic Jean Marcel. Among other things, this is due to the JM A09 calibre with ETA 2892A2 basic movement in the high-quality Élaboré version, which was used for the first time.

With their 6 mm overall height, the TANTUM hand-wound watches are among the flattest mechanical timepieces available today. In order to achieve this, Jean Marcel has already started with the movement: The JM H05 with the basic calibre ETA Peseux 7001, as one of the thinnest mechanical movements on the market, was not selected accidentally.

The massive stainless steel cases of the TANTUM automatic watches and chronographs are pressure resistant up to 10 ATM, corresponding to a static water column of 100 meters, the hand-wound models withstand up to 5 ATM pressure, which corresponds to 50 meters water depth.

Even though the polished, obliquely flattened bezel makes the dial appear much larger: The TANTUM cases, each with a diameter of 42 mm, are well-proportioned for almost every wrist and rightly promise the highest "Swiss Made" wearing comfort à la Jean Marcel.

On all models, the time and chronograph totalisers are easy to read – they are protected by the specially coated sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating used in all TANTUM watches.

When breathing on the TANTUM watch glass, the "JM" company logo appears for a brief moment: this "mystery effect" by Jean Marcel, a sophisticated secret signature incorporated into the sapphire crystal antireflection coating, can be regarded as a unique sign of authenticity for the Swiss brand – thanks to an elaborate partial coating technology that cannot easily be imitated.

With its thermal stability and high mechanical strength, sapphire crystal ranks high on Mohs' scale of hardness – at position 9 right after diamonds. In contrast, the "hardened" mineral glass used in many other wristwatches hardly differs from ordinary window glass and is comparatively sensitive to scratches.

The case back of all TANTUM models, which is screwed together several times, also has a generously dimensioned sapphire crystal window to show the beauty of the mechanical "Swiss Made" movement.

The movements of the TANTUM – exclusive Swiss calibres only

Inside the TANTUM watches there are selected, tailor-made JM movements, which are exclusively based on ETA calibres of the highest quality from Swiss production and are lovingly encased in Switzerland.

The JM H05 caliber based on the ETA Peseux 7001 acts as the movement of the hand-wound models. One of the thinnest mechanical movements of all, it is one of the necessary prerequisites for the watch’s sensationally low total height of only 6 mm. A TANTUM manual winding watch can be easily recognized by the small second on the dial at 6 o'clock.

For the first time, Jean Marcel has incorporated the particularly slim movement JM A09, based on the noble ETA automatic caliber 2892A2 Élaboré, into the automatic TANTUM three-hand watches with date, which again contributes significantly to the low overall height of the timepieces.

The TANTUM chronographs even feature a real revolution in the movement, brilliantly packaged in the typical "Jean Marcel" design: the JM A10 is a groundbreaking Swiss movement based on the new ETA 2894-2, the world's flattest automatic chronograph movement with a large rotor. The highly refined JM A10 chronograph calibre with blued movement screws and fine cuts was also impressively designed by Jean Marcel according to all the rules of "Haute Horlogerie" and has already proven itself in the Oceanum and Somnium lines.

Traditionally, the reliability and precision of a Swiss watch's movement – in addition to the quality of the case components – have absolute priority. The mechanical movements of Jean Marcel are meticulously fine-tuned: Each of the limited edition mechanical watches comes with a corresponding certificate of authenticity, signed by the watchmaker.

The dials of the TANTUM – only the finest design perfection

The aesthetic extravagance of Jean Marcel's "Swiss Made" watches, typical of the brand, is evident in their subtly structured dial design with applied numerals and indices. The design element common to all TANTUM models is the circular, concise recess in the centre of the dial, and there is also a finely drawn, slender railroad chapter ring at the edge of the dial.

The brand logo itself and the "Jean Marcel" lettering – partly superimposed, partly printed – are visually discreet. The perfectly legible numerals and indices are elaborately applied. The result is an unobtrusively elegant yet unmistakable JM design that is unparalleled in the watch world. Using Superluminova luminous material on the hands, Jean Marcel has also ensured the night readability of the new "Swiss Made" watches in an exemplary manner for all variants of the TANTUM.

Jean Marcel offers the automatic TANTUM chronograph with a dial in two noble colour variants, deep midnight blue and noble slate grey, in front of which the shiny metallic line indices stand out. A ring-shaped opening with a mostly unobstructed view of the date disc is eye-catching and striking. The date window itself is ideally positioned between 4 and 5 o'clock. The positioning of the totalisers is reminiscent of the "classic" Swiss tricompax arrangement – but with swapped places: The small second is located next to the 3 o'clock index and the stop minute next to the 9 o'clock position.

The TANTUM manual winding watch is also available in two dial variants, all in night blue or enamel white with grey circle elements for the hour indices and in the subsidiary dial of the small second.

Four dial colours are available for the TANTUM automatic watch: Silver, night blue, tobacco brown and slate grey, all with silver Arabic numerals. Typical Jean Marcel, it features a striking center second hand with a red pointer tip and a slightly downward curved triple date window above the 6 o'clock position, which simultaneously reveals three date digits.

The bracelets of the TANTUM – only selected ones in stainless steel and calf leather

The watches of the TANTUM series by Jean Marcel can be worn extremely conveniently and comfortable on selected leather, textile or stainless steel wristbands in elegant design. The straps are made of the finest calf leather, partly with soft nappa leather padding or with decorative stitching, and are available in dark brown, black or, like the robust textile strap, dark blue, all provided with an original JM buckle. The easily operated JM double folding clasp provides a secure hold for the link bracelet or Milanaise bracelet made of solid stainless steel and also makes it easy to put on or take off the watch.
